The Digital Resource Commons (DRC) is a robust, statewide platform that provides access to the wealth of research, historic, instructional and creative materials produced by Ohio’s scholarly communities. The DRC enables Ohio colleges and universities to save, discover and share all types and formats of digital materials, including audio, video, graphic images and text. The DRC is an outgrowth of OhioLINK’s Digital Media Center and will include all the commercial content currently available in the DMC. Planned DRC enhancements include capabilities for hosting and supporting institutional repositories, peer review e-journals, electronic theses and dissertations and learning objects. The DRC eliminates the need for redundant and costly local investments by enabling Ohio colleges and universities to utilize OhioLINK servers. It offers flexible control to institutions and communities within institutions to define how content is added, preserved and displayed to end users. The DRC is designed to make content submission easy; institutions and communities can add content online and control all aspects of how that content is displayed. Contributors can brand content to a particular community or institution, while still retaining the ability to search for content across all communities and institutions using the repository. To the end user it appears to be the institution’s repository — as if it were hosted on your institution’s own servers. The Digital Resource Commons is part of the Ohio Digital Commons for Education, a collaborative initiative of the Ohio Learning Network, OhioLINK and the Ohio Supercomputer Center/OARnet to develop leading-edge education resources, services and capabilities in Ohio. |
