Ohio Imprints 1796-1805 Advance specimen pages of a check list of Ohio imprints, 1796-1830, soon to be issued by the American Imprints Inventory of the Historical Records Survey. Columbus, Ohio Historical Records Survey Division of Women's and Professional Projects Works Progress Administration 1938 EXPLANATORY NOTE The mimeographed pages which follow are offered to those in attendance at the annual meeting of the Ohio State Archaeological and Historical Society, as a specimen showing the general character of a "Check List of Ohio Imprints, 1796-1830" now in process of final editing, and soon to be issued by the Ohio State office of the Historical Records Survey. It will be noted that one of the essentia l features of the following list is the indicationofwhere given titles may be found. Nothing is more exasperating to a scholar th;m to have a reference to a book or pamphlet, no copy of which can anywhere be found. Through the nation-wide search for early. printed materials of historical interest now being conducted by the American Imprints Inventory, there have been turned up many rare Ohio titles never previously known to exist , many of these being found in libraries thousands of miles beyond the borders of the state. The titles which will make up the forthcoming list have been de rived from many sources. Many have been reported by the field workers of the Historical Records Survey assi gned to the American Impri nts Inventory. Others were drawn from previous compilations, and from the bibliographical notes gathered over many ye~rs by the present writer. Numerous librarians have cooperated most helpfully in supplying detailed descriptions of imprints in the collections under their care. Acknowled gment of all such assistance will be made in the preface to the full list. Dr. Luther H. Evans, national director, and John.O. Marsh, Ohio state director of the Historical Records Survey, have cooper::1ted at every turn to facilitate the gathering and editing of the material. The list is edited by the undersigned. Notes of additions to or corrections of the titles here re~orded will be welcomed, for incorporation into the full list soon to be issued. Douglas C.
