The "Queen Victoria" was built of wood in 1868 by August Cantin at Montreal. She was built to run on the Grenville-Ottawa route. After the Lachine Canal was enlarged in 1875, the passenger boats ran the Lachine Rapids daily, except Sundays. "Queen Victoria" was operated as a day boat until 1873 when a night service was established. She was used on the upper route while the "Princess" was used on the lower route. When the night service was discontinued in 1880, the "Queen Victoria" was sold to Toronto interests. She burned on Lake Erie near Chatham, Ontario September 15, 1883. |
